Quick notes of things before I sleep (postmortem? maybe):
- Took us a little while to come up with an idea for this one, but this was the best jam we had so far! We made progress fast - I did the effects stuff first (audience jumping/spinning Paper Mario-style depending on inputs, screenshake, screen-pushing) before the actual input mechanic - I faked the background being pushed (Just attached Images to the border) - The alien messages were fake-synced to the audio (Basically just waiting for a certain amount of seconds before the alien could send a character; There was a BPM-to-seconds calculator online) - The BPM was slow at first, but we decided to make it faster to make it.. more fast-paced - Aliens could send characters at every 1/3rd of a beat or ½ of a beat - Took a few days before I uploaded the game to itch because I had to fix a bug where inputs are detected as wrong if you press too fast.. which was caused by using Input.GetAxis for the inputs. I had each key be in a separate button to fix the issue - I used ScriptableObjects for the portraits to contain open/closed mouths for each body sprite, and to tell the position of where the mouth should be - With the black border, resolution-forcing script I was using, I had the canvas set to World Space so it doesn’t keep resizing to other resolutions. (But really I should just learn how to handle other resolutions; Also this is probably already in the Farmer Fran postmortem) - First time trying to do SFX for a jam; went pretty well! - While trying to playtest the game fixing the input bug, I got a little motion-sick from my own bouncy effects; I should have options for that in the future (I did tone it down a little after that tho, but still)
Hello! We participated in this year’s Global Game Jam and created a little 2-player game! Battle with your friends as you find out who’s the fastest intergalactic TV translator in the world.
Last weekend, we went to this year’s E-Sports and Gaming Summit (ESGS) and exhibited Farmer Fran! The convention was definitely a lot bigger this year, and we had tons of fun meeting familiar faces and watching others play our game. If you want to know how we prepared for the event and how it went, read on!
Hey guys, well, I’m kinda of desperate here and extremely tired so I’ll try to be quick! The programmer I was working with had just quit the project for personal reasons and I need urgently someone to work with for making menus and helping me with VvtZ’s battle system in game maker 2. I don’t need the person to work on the project full time, but would appreciate someone I could discuss stuff about the development on the new engine. It has been extremely hard for me, and I basically can do everything else on my own, but I really need help with those. So any reblogs are extremely appreciated, I am in dire need here!!!
Thank you to everyone who visited our booth and played Farmer Fran at this year’s ESGS!
It has been an amazing 3 days, watching people’s reactions and hearing their thoughts about our game. To the few who actually finished the entirety of it during the event, we salute you for your patience and hard work. ;D
We will be posting a little more about our experience next time. For now, you can look at more pictures over here. We hope you enjoyed the event as well! <3
